Past events
BioBlitz and the Big Green Get Together 2024
This June, the council and partners held a 24 hour BioBlitz event which only happens every 3 years. Its purpose is to find and identify as many species of plants, animals and fungi as possible within the 24 hours. All the data that has been collected is documented and passed onto national databases that monitor wildlife. On the Saturday, it was a duel event where both the Bioblitz and the Big Green Get Together took place. The Big Green Get Together was a family fun day filled with arts, crafts, theatre, music and more!
Draft Climate Change Strategy Consultation
At the beginning of 2024, the climate change team and our amazing volunteers visited different parts of the borough to gather peoples views on the draft Climate Change Strategy. The views have been considered and the strategy is being finalised. In the meantime, you can read our draft Climate Change Strategy.
Chamber Low Carbon Business Support Launch
As part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) Wyre Council have teamed up with the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce to offer fully funded expert advice and support to businesses. On 12 October 2023, a launch event was held at Wyre Civic Centre to allow businesses to learn more about the programme. The program helps businesses to make a plan to net zero and achieve their low carbon ambitions.
Eco Explorers event at the Mount
Wyre Council held an Eco Explorer event on 30 August, to raise awareness on climate change. There were fun games, orienteering, crafts and the opportunity to make your own pledge to look after the planet.
On 10 June 2023, Wyre Council and partners hosted a Big Green Get Together. The event had live music on a solar powered stage and magical performances, fun games, opportunities to help artists build a junk sculture, a plant swap and much more.
