Local projects
We would love to see more examples of community climate action across Wyre. If you have a project you can showcase, use our online form to get in touch and let us know. We can promote your activities here and point you in the direction of any support or funding opportunities.
Repair cafes are an excellent way to fix much loved items that would otherwise be sent to landfill. They can provide you with the tools, materials and skilled volunteers to make the repairs you need. Items that can be repaired include furniture, clothing, electrical appliances, toys and more. Residents can bring broken items along and learn to repair, or if you want to join but have nothing to repair, you can lend a helping hand.
There are currently over 2,500 repair cafes worldwide, our nearest ones in Wyre being Chorley, Horwich, Blackburn and Grange-over-sands. We would love to see more repair cafes locally - if you want to learn more, or find out how to set up a repair cafe in your community, visit the repair cafe website.
Want to start a Greening Campaign?
Community groups, particularly town and parish councils, can also sign up to create a Greening Campaign for their local area. This is a structured process that guides community groups through climate action and engagement.
If you would like to sign up, or find out more about how the council could support your group, please get in touch.
Become a member of Lancashire Climate Action Network (LancsCAN)
LancsCAN was formed in June 2023 following the first Lancashire Community Climate Action Forum. The leading aim of LancsCAN is to "mobilise Lancashire's community voice and action on climate change, working collaboratively with others to advance the county's climate agenda". The group is comprised of community organisations across a number of climate themes; energy, biodiversity and wildlife, green and blue spaces, transport and mobility, housing and buildings, recycling and waste management.
The group is supported by all three Lancashire universities; Edge Hill University, Lancaster University and University of Central Lancashire.
To learn more or enquire about becoming a member visit LancsCAN.
