Consultations

Public Open Space Survey

People who live and work in Wyre were invited help shape the planning and delivery of public open space (also known as green infrastructure) across the borough.

Public open space can include natural and semi-natural features, playgrounds, grassed spaces, green corridors, rivers and ponds.

These open spaces can deliver a wide range of benefits for people and wildlife, such as:

  • Contributing to the character of a place;
  • Supporting physical and mental health and well-being across our communities;
  • Supporting active learning through play;
  • Supporting active travel (cycling and walking);
  • Providing habitats for wildlife to thrive;
  • Tackling climate change by storing carbon;
  • Managing surface water and reducing air pollution;
  • Aiding social cohesion by acting as communal spaces where people can come together; and
  • Providing economic benefits by supporting the development and maintenance of attractive places – places to invest in.

Consultation

Consultants (Knight, Kavanagh and Page – KKP) are are working on behalf of Wyre council to prepare an audit of public open space across the borough Council.

The aim of the audit is to identify the different types of green spaces across the borough, to assess the quality of this space and to understand how it can be improved, including accessibility.

The audit will allow the council to develop its own green infrastructure strategy that will identify opportunities for improvement and investment. The results of the audit will also contribute to the development of future planning policies designed to protect public open space and to require developers to include public open spaces as part of new developments. Improving, protecting and creating public open spaces is also a key part of the borough’s wellness strategy.

The consultation closed on Friday 17 March 2023.
