Wyre Council has a legal duty to help people who are homeless (or about to lose their home) and who meet certain criteria. The criteria for deciding who we can help and what help can be offered is laid down in the Housing Act 1996 part VII (as amended 2002). The housing options team is responsible for assessing your situation and deciding whether or not you meet the criteria.
You are homeless if you have no home in the UK or anywhere else that it would be reasonable for you to occupy, or if you have been asked to leave your current home within 28 days. Although the law mentions 28 days, we are pleased to assist anyone homeless or threatened with homelessness at any earlier stage. It is always better to seek advice as early as possible as we may be able to help resolve any issues and prevent you from becoming homeless. When you contact us, we will carry out a number of checks to see if what advice and assistance we can provide to you.
