Application to Register - Self-Build and Custom Build home

With effect from the 1st July 2024, Wyre Council is operating a two-part register.

The criteria to join Part 2 of the register is as follows. Applicants must be:

  1. Aged 18 years or older.
  2. A British Citizen, a national of an EEA state or Switzerland.
  3. Seeking to acquire a services plot of land within the borough for their own self-build or custom housebuilding project.

The additional eligibility criteria to join Part 1 of the register is as follows:

  1. Local Connection, defined as :-
    a) Applicant is a current resident of Wyre and has been for the last three years or
    b) Applicant is currently employed in Wyre and working over sixteen hours per week or
    c) Applicant has immediate family (parent, adult son, adult daughter, or adult sibling) currently residing in Wyre and has done so for the last five years.
    or
    If an applicant does not meet the local connection criteria as defined above, they will still be eligible to join the Part 1 register if they are a member of the armed forces or have been a member of the armed forces within the last five years and meet the financial solvency test below.
  2. Financial Solvency test – the applicant has the means to fund a self-build or custom-build whether this be using capital or a self-build mortgage in principle.

With effect from 1st July 2024 applicants will be required to pay an annual fee of £235.72  per application to join the register. Applicants who wish to remain on the register, will be required to renew each year and thus will be required to pay the fee stipulated above upon renewal. The fee is to recover the Councils costs in line with the governments guidance which can found here (Self-build and custom housebuilding - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)).
