As part of the Mount restoration project we are building a new playground next to the Lodge building.
The £55,000 play area will include a wide range of play equipment including some coastal themed pieces. The old playground will be removed. Built in 2004 it is coming to the end of its useful life and has a limited range of play.
The new playground should be open in early 2020. In the meantime there are nearby play facilities across the road at Marine Gardens.
We will be restoring the gardens where the old play area was, introducing ornamental planting reminiscent of its original Victorian planting style.
The foundations for the retaining walls in the new Mary Hope garden are also going in this week. This garden was originally designed in the 1960s for people who were blind with lots of sensory planting. It is now being rejuvenated for everyone to enjoy.
