Get fit equipment at King George V playing field in Fleetwood

If you’re looking for ways to get active, why not take a trip to King George V playing field in Fleetwood, where you’ll find some brand new pieces of outdoor gym equipment ready to use.

Wyre Council has just installed a walker, a cycle trainer and a slalom machine and local residents are now encouraged to come along and have a go.

Installing the new equipment is one of six ‘open spaces’ projects delivered by the Healthier Fleetwood partnership each led by organisations including Wyre Council, Fleetwood Town Council, Regenda Homes and Westview Community Association.

David Gore of Healthier Fleetwood said, “This equipment is for anyone to use as part of a regular exercise routine or perhaps to warm up for a run around the fields. The open space projects offer a wide range of opportunities whether it be for health and fitness, creating and transforming community spaces or as a chance to volunteer - all important factors to supporting an individual’s and a community’s wellbeing.”

The projects have been supported by the Walney Extension Community Fund and are now all close to completion.

Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces at Wyre Council comments, “We want to encourage residents to explore our great outdoors and to improve their health and wellbeing and this kind of equipment is the perfect way to do both. Being outside has such a positive impact on how we feel and it’s great to be able to offer local people the opportunity to exercise outdoors in their local area.”
