An informative new website has been launched to help tackle physical inactivity in the borough and inspire Wyre residents to move more.
The new website is a key part of the Wyre Moving More strategy, which aims to strengthen the connections between sport, physical activity and health and wellbeing in Wyre. It is packed full of information about all the ways people can move more in Wyre and why increased physical activity is so important for health and wellbeing.
Local rates of inactivity are above both regional and national levels with 32% of adults and 26% of children and young people in Wyre being classed as inactive. The Wyre Moving More strategy aims to change this and the new website has been designed to be the go-to source for inspiration, practical tips and information on how to lead a more active, fulfilling life in Wyre.
The Wyre Moving More website features helpful blogs on how to easily increase your activity levels at home, at work and in your everyday lives showing that physical activity is just another term for moving the body, which everyone does every day! The website also features a comprehensive directory of sports clubs, classes and gym sessions, local community groups, accessible activities in Wyre and more information about all the ways we can improve our wellness and well-being by being more active in Wyre’s great outdoors.

Why Moving More Matters
Whatever your age or ability, being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life. Any physical activity is good, whether that is by attending a structured physical activity class, playing in some team sports, or simply walking the dog or playing with your children at home in the garden.
For most people, the easiest way to get moving is to make activity an important part of everyday life, like walking or cycling instead of using the car to get around. However, the more you do, the better and taking part in activities such as sports and exercise will help make you even healthier.
Research also shows that moving more can boost self-esteem, improve mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing your risk of stress and anxiety.
About the Wyre Moving More strategy
The strategy was launched earlier this year and has been developed by a cross-sector partnership of experts from health, local government, higher education, schools and the charity sector to address the issue of combating physical inactivity.
It is a five-year physical activity strategy for Wyre, which aims to embed a culture of ‘moving more’ and thereby increase physical activity levels across communities in Wyre. It states the ambitions of the Wyre Moving More Project Board, a cross-sector multi-agency initiative facilitated and led by Wyre Council and sets out the collective long-term commitment to, ‘help Wyre residents feel healthier, happier and better connected to their communities through physical activity.’
Led by Wyre Council, working together with Lancashire County Council, UCLAN, Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, Active Lancashire, Wyre and Fylde School Sports Partnership, local Primary Care Networks, Fleetwood Town Community Trust and Fylde Coast YMCA.
