Wyre and Myerscough Hedgelaying competition

Wyre and Myerscough Hedgelaying competition

The Wyre and Myerscough Hedgelaying competition is being held on Saturday 7 December 2019.

The competition is part of the Lancashire and Westmorland Hedgelaying Association’s grand prix of seven competitions held throughout the north west of England.

Competitors enter in one of five classes; championship, open, novice, junior or starter and are required to lay a hedge to create a stockproof living hedge which is approximately three foot high and laid at an angle of 45°.

Jointly organised by Wyre Council and Myerscough College the competition will start at 9.15am and finish at around 3pm, followed by a brief awards ceremony. It is at Halliday’s Farm, Moss Lane, Bilsborrow, PR3 0RU.

Spectators are welcome. It’s a great opportunity to watch this ancient countryside craft first hand and a chance to see professionals in the craft at work. The hedge is at the far side of a muddy stubble field, so please make sure you have wellingtons or boots.

If you would like any further information please contact 07989 579351 (Tuesday to Saturday) or email countryside@wyre.gov.uk
