Think self care for a healthier, happier life

Think self care for a healthier, happier life

Wyre Council is inviting people to take time out for themselves and come along to events across the borough this Self Care Week.

Self Care Week is a national awareness week that’s all about making improvements in your life to protect your physical health and mental wellbeing. Running from 18 to 24 November it’s a chance to make small changes that can make a big difference.

Together with a number of partner organisations, Wyre Council has lots going on to help people improve their health and wellbeing.

On Sunday 17 November Wyre’s Countryside Rangers and Active Lives team will be attending the Calder Vale Hopewalk, which is in aid of the Papyrus charity, chatting about what health and wellbeing activities are on in Wyre all year round. There are two walks, both starting at 1pm from Calder Vale village hall.

18 November is Memory Monday at the Teanlowe 60+ centre in Poulton. Come along from 10am to 1pm for a morning of shared memories and friendship with information on how to keep well this winter. The council’s Active Lives and Care and Repair teams will be there along with Fleetwood Town Community Trust and the Fylde and Wyre Falls Service. There will also be a chair based exercise session which takes place every week at 1.30pm to 2.30pm and is £3 but your first session is free.

Tuesday 19 November is International Men’s Day. From 11am to 3pm Fleetwood Town Community Trust alongside Fleetwood’s Men’s Shed and Wyre Council will be at Fleetwood Sea Cadet building promoting ways of keeping well.

Wednesday 20 November is Young Person’s Wellbeing Day and The Blackpool Sixth Form College will be taking over Wyre Council’s social media feeds for the day giving their views and top tips for self care. Follow @WyreCouncil on Facebook and Twitter to find out more.

On Thursday 21 November you can come along to an arts café at Garstang Arts Centre from 12pm to 4pm. There will be an afternoon of arts activities taking place. Come and see what the groups at the centre offer, try something new or bring your own project to work on in the company of others and with a brew!

On Friday 22 November there will be a drop in session from 10am to 12pm at Cottam Hall community garden in Poulton where you can see the work Wyre Council and The Blackpool Sixth Form College have done to transform the space, and discuss its future development.

On Saturday 23 November get your trainers on for the Fleetwood promenade parkrun at 9am, setting off from behind Marine Hall. It takes place every Saturday and is completely free, you just need to register to take part before turning up to your first event and you can walk, jog or run.

During Self Care Week, and everyday think self care for life and make self care your life-long habit.
