Tell us about an average day in your role
Every day is completely different, which is one reason I love my job. You never know what is waiting for you when you turn on your computer! Requests to visit schools to learn about recycling, youth groups wanting to do a litter pick, community groups wanting advice on avoiding food waste.
What attracted you to your role?
I have always been keen on recycling: finding ways to cut down on buying single-use items. So, when I saw this job advertised, I felt it had been created just for me!
What has been the highlight of your career with us so far?
As exhausting as they have been, the Pumpkin Rescue Roadshows have been really cool! Converting residents to liking my pumpkin pie and educating them that pumpkins are a really cheap delicious food and not just a decoration. I have to mention too, that I have made great friends within the council and through the council. My litter pickers and Bloomers are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and we are all working towards the same goals.
What are the three main benefits of working here?
Flexi-time is beneficial to anyone with a busy life and now with hybrid working being an option, I feel like my work/life balance is in check!
Working in a great team: it’s so important to get along with your colleagues as you spend so much time at work.
And thirdly, feeling listened to if I ever need support. I know that working for a caring employer makes all the difference.
Would you recommend working for Wyre council to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, they would get to see me every day! And I would bring cake!
