Meet Radford, Technical Officer for Environmental Health & Community Safety, Pollution Control in Wyre Council. Radford has been with Wyre Council for over 15 years. We asked him what it is he loves about working for us and his plans for the future.
What attracted you to your role?
I started with Wyre Council in the Contact Centre. I was given the opportunity to try other roles in other departments. The Technical Officer role attracted me because it involves a variety of work that is genuinely interesting. For example, dealing with multi agencies such as Police, NHS, and the Fire Service makes every day different.
What has kept you working for Wyre Council for over 15 years?
The people you work with make your day. We are like a family; we are all aiming to achieve the same goal and share our knowledge with each other.
I also don’t feel like I would get the same work life balance anywhere else like you do at Wyre. You wouldn’t get that flexibility that you need sometimes.
How have you been supported in progression?
There has always been opportunity for me to progress. People are willing to offer their advice and wealth of experience in order to help you to progress. Management are supportive and encourage you.
I am currently studying a four year degree Environmental Health qualification. I am soon to complete this and will be a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer. The course has been fully funded by Wyre and I have been given paid time off to attend the training. There are opportunities to shadow five disciplines to gain Chartered status of CIEH.
What advice do you have for anyone considering applying for a position at Wyre Council?
If I had to give anyone advice who was thinking about applying for a position at Wyre I would encourage them to 100%. I’ve always felt relaxed at Wyre, the people are so friendly and it feels like a home environment. People get to know each other which makes them work better together.
