An Update to the 2011 study has been produced, which includes the correction of over-trading and the opportunity to extend future floor space needs to 2030. The 2013 update report should be read in conjunction with the 2011 study.
The national planning policy framework indicates that local planning authorities may set a local floor space threshold to require an impact assessment for retail, leisure and office developments proposed outside town centres. A stand-alone Local Floorspace Threshold Advice Note has been produced, which lowers the threshold from the national default 2,500 square metres to 500 square metres.
