The first day of a three day walk along the Wyre Way from its source in the Forest of Bowland fells to its mouth in Morecambe Bay.
From Dolphinholme we take transport to Abbeystead. Walking from Abbeystead we follow the Marshaw Wyre upstream, and join the Trough of Bowland Road. Heading up the Forest of Bowland fells we reach the highest point of the Wyre Way and the nearby source of the River Wyre. We then drop down to follow the Tarnbrook Wyre, cross fields making our way back to Abbeystead. We then visit the Abbeystead reservoir with its curved dam and magnificent spillway. From there we cross fields, cross the river at the Long Bridge, continue across fields until we reach Dolphinholme. We will encounter a few footbridges with stiles at the ends, stiles, ladder stiles and wall stiles.
