Upskilling and training
Upskilling your workforce is essential to adapt to climate change and future-proof your business. More and more opportunities are becoming available to help businesses, including:
- Low Carbon Skills Portal - to help businesses in Lancashire find low carbon skills training for employees, and business support for employers on their journey to net zero.
- Lancashire's Strategic Development Fund (SDF) Pilot - a pilot supporting Lancashire's further education colleges and local employers to respond to local skills priorities for achieving a low carbon economy.
- Sustainable futures at Blackpool and The Fylde College - find courses to help you upskill, these include retrofit, automative and science classes.
Becoming Carbon Literate
Carbon Literacy is an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community or organisational basis. As a council, we are a Carbon Literate Organisation and have committed to training our staff. Businesses can also train up their staff to achieve the same accreditation.
This training is useful because it:
- Increases your knowledge on climate change, and more importantly what you can do about it.
- Leads to resource savings as part of pledges to reduce emissions.
- Improves your business reputation as it demonstrates your commitment to sustainability to potential employers, partners and customers.
- Builds valuable networking connections with other businesses during the training.
- Empowers you to talk about climate change positively and champion sustainability.
